Nancy Chillag, founder and president of CHILLAG & ASSOCIATES, is an attorney, Certified Public Accountant and licensed Real Estate Broker.

Nancy grew up in South Bend, Indiana and received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 1979. Tired of the extreme weather she moved to California to attend law school and received her law degree from Santa Clara University in 1982, where she was Articles Editor of the Santa Clara Law Review. She is certified to practice law in the State of California and before the United States District Court and Tax Court, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.

While in law school, Nancy concentrated on tax law. When she graduated she went to work for Arthur Andersen & Co. specializing in real estate syndications and partnership tax. Shortly after leaving Arthur Andersen she became a Certified Public Accountant. She then practiced with a San Francisco tax firm specializing in real estate, corporate and partnership tax and estate planning. When the tax laws underwent major change in 1986, Nancy decided to refocus her legal specialties and went to work for Cooper, White & Cooper, a prominent San Francisco law firm, as a real estate and construction litigator. She obtained her Real Estate Broker’s license in 1988.

As a CPA and real estate broker, Nancy is able to more fully understand her clients’ business transactions and offer practical, as well as legal, advice. It also allows her to easily communicate with the tax and real estate advisors that serve her clients.

Nancy moved to Menlo Park in 1987 and shortly thereafter, opened her own law firm. She is married to a general contractor and has three daughters.

Nancy’s practice is focused in the areas of real estate, construction, business law, employment and estate planning. She handles both transactional matters and litigation in these fields.

Nancy has appeared as a guest on the cable television shows Absolutely Real Estate and Silicon Valley Real Estate discussing real estate and construction legal issues. She has been a featured speaker for the National Association of Realtors, the American Business Women’s Association, Tri-County Apartment Association, Pacific Coast Builders’ Conference, Chamber of Commerce and various Boards of Realtors. From 1996 through 2000 Nancy served as the legal article writer for Qualified Remodeler, a national magazine for the construction trades.

Nancy is also active in the community. From 1996 through 2004 she served on the Menlo Park Arts Commission and held the Chairperson position from 1998 through 2004. She also served on the Economic Development Task Force for the city and participated on the Recreation and Cultural Development Steering Committee.
